Okanagan Hockey School
OHS is regarded as one of the finest hockey schools in the world!
OHS offers young hockey players a program that teaches on-ice, dry-land, and classroom-based instruction aimed at providing an environment that supports their development in sport and as individuals.
Remarkably, in 2010, Jon-Lee will again return as an instructor, in this his 27th consecutive summer at OHS! He has been a classroom instructor at OHS since 1983.
Leadership through a positive self-image seminar
Each summer, Jon-Lee teaches athletes life skills, focusing on specific relaxation, visualization, and cognitive skills practiced by achievers in sport, business, and academics.
Jon-Lee has always been at least 20 years ahead of fashion–when he was basketball coach of the Simon Fraser University Clansmen 1965-75, he pioneered practices that have now gained currency in sport and high performance teams. For example, he exposed players to the disciplines of yoga, dance, and guided imagery, and in doing so, he faced a lot of criticism. However, the success of the Clansmen was unprecedented. With Jon-Lee as coach, the SFU Clansmen program dominated university basketball in Canada for 10 years. He continues to teach students to tap into the power of imagination and creativity at OHS each summer.
Jon-Lee also encourages OHS students and parents to explore scholarship opportunities in Canadian and US colleges and universities, no matter what their sport. He encourages athletes to find balance early on in life, by developing their physical, spiritual, emotional, and academic & vocational skills and interests, and become well developed individuals.
